Preheat the oven to 200 °C.
Melt the butter in a pan and toast the bread slices until golden brown on both sides. Place ham and Gruyère alternately on one toasted slice. Cover with the second slice of toast and bake briefly in the oven until the cheese is melted.
Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Place a metal ring in the pan, crack the egg into it and fry until the egg white is set but the yolk remains runny.
Chef's tip
For a perfect fried egg, a metal ring (Ø 8–10 cm) and a non-stick pan are recommended.
