Accessibility Statement
Gurkerl.at GmbH strives to make its digital services and in accordance with accessible the Accessibility Act (“BaFG”) for the implementation of the European Accessibility Directive (EU) 2019/882.
This accessibility statement applies to our website www.gurkerl.at as well as to the mobile app of the same name.
Description of the Service
In our online shop, users can select and order groceries and goods everydayonline. The ordering process includes searching for and selecting products, managing the shopping cart, and choosing the delivery and payment method . Additionally, users must create a customer account to place an order.
Status of Compliance with Requirements
Our goal is to ensure barrier-free access for everyone, regardless of disabilities or technical limitations. We strive to design our digital services in accordance with the BaFG. For technical implementation, we follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 (available here), which prescribe the following accessibility standards, among others:
- Perceivable: Content and user interfaces must be designed so that they can be perceived by all users, for example through text alternatives for non-textual content, sufficient color contrast, and adaptable display formats.
- Operable: All functions must be operable by all users, particularly without a mouse (e.g., via the keyboard).
- Comprehensible: Content must be clear and understandable, which includes simple language, predictable navigation, and helpful error messages and input assistance.
- Robust: Content must be designed so that it can be interpreted by assistive technologies.
Our website essentially complies with WCAG 2.1 Level AA . Our mobile app (iOS and Android) partially complies with WCAG 2.1 Level AA – essential information and the ordering process are accessible, but there are currently still some incompatibilities. This assessment is based on an internal accessibility evaluation, most recently conducted on April 27, 2026.
Non-accessible content
Despite our ongoing efforts, some content or features cannot yet be offered in a fully accessible manner. This applies to:
- Older PDF documents dated before June 28, 2025, which are not fully optimized for accessibility.
- Embedded or linked third-party content, over whose accessibility we have no direct influence.
- In the mobile app, alternative text for product images or decorative graphics is missing in some cases, or the alternative text is insufficient. This is currently being actively reviewed and corrected.
- When scrolling through product lists (homepage, category pages, search results) with a screen reader (VoiceOver on iOS, TalkBack on Android), the “Add to Cart” button on each product card receives screen reader focus as a standalone element rather than as part of the product card. This causes the screen reader focus to unexpectedly shift out of the product contextand disrupts the natural reading flow of the product card. While the “Add to Cart” function remains usable, navigation via screen reader is not optimal. A fix is currently being developed for both iOS and Android platforms and is scheduled to be completed by May 11, 2026.
- Aside from the issue mentioned above, we are aware that the app’s usability with screen readers needs to be further optimized overall. We have therefore initiated a structured review covering product search, product details, the shopping cart, the account, and order history. Based on this review, we are planning prioritized improvements, which are scheduled to be implemented in the second and third quarters of 2026.
We are continuously working to improve the accessibility of our digital services and to remove existing barriers.
Measures to Implement Accessibility
To improve digital accessibility, we are implementing the following measures in particular:
- regular automated and manual testing of our main pages and the ordering process;
- ongoing review of contrast ratios, alternative text, and focus navigation;
- testing of new versions prior to release;
- Training of the responsible teams;
- Introduction of automated accessibility regression tests in our continuous integration pipeline in the second quarter of 2026 to detect potential accessibility regressions before they reach the production environment.
