Preparation method
First, we prepare the simple syrup. To do this, add equal parts granulated sugar and still water to a small saucepan. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has completely dissolved and the liquid becomes slightly syrupy. Then let the syrup cool completely. Tip: The syrup can be stored in a clean bottle in the refrigerator for up to one month.
Fill a glass or a typical silver cup about halfway with crushed ice. Add 2 cl of the homemade simple syrup, the fresh mint leaves (gently press between your fingers to release the essential oils), and 60 ml of Bourbon Whiskey.
Stir everything well with a bar spoon until the outside of the glass becomes slightly frosted. Top up with more crushed ice until a small 'iceberg' forms.
Chef's tip
For the best aroma, be sure to use fresh mint and only press it lightly instead of crushing it, so that the drink does not become bitter.
A classic Julep cup made of silver or stainless steel keeps the cocktail ice-cold for an extra long time.
