Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.

Add the finely chopped onion along with the carrot pieces to the pot and sauté until golden brown for approx. 6–7 minutes.

Add brown cane sugar, a pinch of chili powder, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Pour 800 ml vegetable broth over everything. Cover and simmer over medium heat for 13–15 minutes.
