Ingredients
- 400 g minced pork
- 400 g minced beef
- 260 g onion
- 300 ml whole milk
- 6 cloves garlic
- 3 Kaiser rolls
- 2 eggs
- ½ tsp ground caraway
- 1 tbsp dried marjoram
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 20 g fine table salt
Method
- 1Preheat the oven to 160 °C top/bottom heat. Pour about 2 cm of water into a roasting pan.
- 2Cut the Kaiser rolls into approx. 1 cm cubes, place them in a bowl, and pour milk over them to soften. Finely dice the onion and peel and press the garlic.
- 3Place the minced meat (beef and pork) in a large bowl. Add the soaked bread cubes, onion, garlic, eggs, and spices (caraway, marjoram, salt, and pepper) and mix everything thoroughly.
- 4With wet hands, form the meat mixture into a smooth loaf. Firmly pat the roast to prevent air bubbles. Smooth the surface with a little water and place it in the roasting pan.
- 5Cook the roast in the preheated oven for approx. 60 minutes. During this time, baste it repeatedly with the accumulating pan juices. After cooking, turn off the oven and let the roast rest in it for another 15 minutes.
- 6Slice the meatloaf, drizzle with the pan juices, and serve traditionally with mashed potatoes or roasted potatoes. It also tastes excellent cold with mustard and bread.
