Prepare Onion Sauce
- 1Finely dice the onion. Heat the oil in a small pot and sauté the onions until translucent.
- 2Add water, ketchup, cinnamon, and chili powder. Simmer over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes until the sauce has thickened. Season with salt.
Assemble Hot Dogs
- 1Heat the sausages in hot (not boiling) water for about 5-8 minutes.
- 2Lightly toast the hot dog buns in the oven or on the grill and slice them lengthwise.
- 3Place a sausage in each bun. Garnish generously with sauerkraut, the warm onion sauce, and a stripe of mustard. Serve immediately.
