About the Producer: Giovanni Rana

1960: During almost ten years in the family bakery, Giovanni decided he wanted to continue working with dough. Inspired by the craftsmanship of local grandmothers, he focused his attention on a special pasta: tortellini. “Quel fiol xe mato” (This child is crazy), his mother said when she first saw him handling eggs, flour, and a rolling pin.

1962: On March 28, the doors of the Rana pasta shop officially opened. As two hands were soon no longer enough, the team grew steadily until Giovanni applied a new strategy to continue growing.

1971: The company needed a larger factory, which Giovanni built in San Giovanni Lupatoto. With the business, his ambition to export the products beyond Italy's borders also grew.

1980: When his son Gian Luca took over the management, he also dreamed big and brought the Giovanni Rana brand to all European countries. The company invested in advertising, and Giovanni still contributes to its recognition with his image today.

2012: The dream of expanding to America came true: Almost simultaneously, the first factory in Chicago and a restaurant in New York's Chelsea Market opened.
