About the producer: Giovanni Rana

1960: During his nearly ten years in the family bakery, Giovanni decided he wanted to keep his hands in dough. Inspired by the craftsmanship of local grandmothers, he turned his attention to a special pasta: tortellini. “Quel fiol xe mato” (This child is crazy), his mother said when she first saw him working with eggs, flour, and a rolling pin.

1962: On March 28, the doors of the Rana pasta shop officially opened. As two hands were soon no longer enough, the team steadily grew until Giovanni adopted a new strategy to keep growing.

1971: The company needed a larger plant, which Giovanni built in San Giovanni Lupatoto. Along with the business, his ambition grew to export products beyond the borders of Italy.

1980: When his son Gian Luca took over management, he also dreamed big and brought the Giovanni Rana brand to all European countries. The company invested in advertising, and to this day, Giovanni’s face continues to contribute to its renown.

2012: The dream of expanding to America came true: almost simultaneously, the first factory in Chicago and a restaurant in New York’s Chelsea Market opened.
