Austria,About the producer - Down-to-earth organic vegetables from the Herret family
The family business in its 5th generation has decades of experience in vegetable cultivation, and with down-to-earth vegetables it is now going back to its roots. The Herret family is convinced that the soil is the most important basis for organic cultivation and that healthy soils have enormous potential for preserving our climate.

Organic vegetables have been grown on an area of about 1.4 hectares in Vienna-Simmering since 2018. In summer, the employees harvest different varieties of tomatoes and cucumbers, in winter salads, herbs, pak choi and more. BODENSTARK Bio is not only sustainable because of its organic cultivation, but also because of its short delivery routes - it is produced directly in Vienna for the people of Vienna! Innovation in harmony with nature, learning from and with nature - that is the vision of BODENSTARK Herret Bio.
As early as 1875, Franz and Barbara Herret cultivated the first nursery in Vienna-Albern, and in 1960 their grandson Johann Herret was one of the first Viennese to grow vegetables in a greenhouse. The managing gardeners Erich and Martin have over 30 years of experience in the conventional cultivation of vegetables when the family went "back to the roots" in 2018 and converted the parental farm to organic. Over generations, the Herrets have perfected the cultivation of fruit vegetables and are now using this know-how in their organic business. As BODENSTARK Bio continues, they are constantly developing new crops that harmonize perfectly with the cycle of the year. Learning about new vegetable crops revitalizes the business, creates joy in work through variety and awakens the spirit of innovation.
Down-to-earth vegetables from the capital
The organic farm in Albern covers an area of approx. 1.4 hectares and employs 10 people, who are offered secure, permanent jobs throughout the year. In summer, the team mainly grows midi and vine tomatoes and various varieties of cucumbers, in winter salads, herbs, pak choi and more. The greenhouse is cultivated in an extremely energy-saving way: in summer, the greenhouse effect provides sufficient moisture and protection, in winter the glass stores the sun's heat. This allows the natural light and heat sources to be used optimally. Farm manager Erich Herret clearly notices that the soil has developed very well since the conversion to organic farming: "When I look at the soil, I can see how the earthworms have slowly started to come back over the past few years. At first they were only on the margins, now they are numerous all over the area and feel at home!"

Storage recommendation
To store tomatoes properly at home, remember: Not in the refrigerator! Let them bask in their own 'tomatoey' glory on the counter, rather than cooling their passion for flavor.
