Fine brandy made from rowanberries, stored in a glass balloon for 2 years, 43% vol

Hardly any other fine brandy polarizes as much as rowanberry. Some love it, others can't stand the smell. In recent years, the fruits of the tall rowan tree have been increasingly planted in the Styrian Teichalm region and are the basis for this exquisite brandy. The rowanberry brandy smells of marzipan and bitter almonds in the nose, and fascinates on the palate with its impetuous spiciness and earthy minerality.

How fine brandies are made:

It all started with an idea, a real brainwave, to be precise. Since 1979, we have dedicated ourselves to this with heart and soul and leave nothing to chance. We distil using the traditional double distillation process in valuable copper stills - free from sugar, flavourings or colourings.

From July to November, work is in full swing in our distillery, because the fresh, fully ripe fruit must be processed as quickly as possible so that the quality is preserved. Once washed and sorted, it can be mashed and freed from panicles, umbels or stones. For the next step, the crushed fruits are transported to large stainless steel tanks for fermentation at 17 – 19 °C. The natural fruit sugar is converted into alcohol in one to two weeks. Once this process is complete, the mash is first distilled in copper stills to produce a raw brandy and then a fine brandy.

For us, double distillation is a tradition that we have maintained to this day. It takes a lot of time, more work and requires considerably more energy than the simple distillation process, but it is worth it to us. So that the raw and fine brandy can run tirelessly, our distillers spend the summer and autumn months almost exclusively in front of their copper stills. Slow and careful is the motto when separating the foreshots and tails, so that as much as possible of the most valuable - the heart - remains.
