Organic Apple Topaz

Here is her phylosophy in her own words:

Where the wide plains of the Marchfeld meet the rolling hills of the Weinviertel, our tasty organic apples and organic pears ripen on an area of about 10 ha. We, Franz and Edith Mayer, with the active help of our son Vinzenz and our seasonal workers, run our organic farm northeast of Vienna in Obersdorf.

With a lot of hard work in all weather conditions, plenty of thought before we act, and the help of our allies the beneficial insects like ladybirds, lacewings, and spiders, we face the growing challenges of organic orchards.

We place great emphasis on the true ripeness and taste of our fruit, which is reflected in increased harvesting, and corresponding feedback from our customers. Our scab-resistant main apple variety Topaz is characterised, among many others, by particularly high fruit weight and therefore suggests high inner values, which result from above-average sunshine hours.

When planting new varieties, we do not let ourselves be determined by the current trend, i.e. taste must come before appearance.

Product description

The winter apple 'Topaz' is a real jewel for the garden with its delicious fruit. The (bot.) Malus 'Topaz' scores with its excellent aroma, its pleasant acidity and can be stored well.
As winter apples, Malus 'Topaz' apples are not immediately ready for consumption but ripen after harvesting until November. They usually keep for a long time and delight apple lovers with their taste throughout the winter. In cold storage they will keep until March, in a controlled atmosphere store until May. Then the new flowering season begins for this wonderful apple tree. Between April and May, the winter apple 'Topaz' adorns itself with snow-white blossoms and delights every garden lover with its flowering splendour. The blossoms awaken the anticipation of the harvest and the enjoyment of the fruits. After storage and ripening, the fruits of the winter apple 'Topaz' are suitable for fresh consumption.

They are wonderful to make applesauce or juice or to use in salads. The delicious apples are medium-sized, aromatic and juicy. The colour of the skin is orange-red at the time of ripening and sometimes has fine reddish stripes on a yellowish background. Smooth is the surface of the shell, which has a slightly greasy, waxy layer. The delicious flesh underneath is firm and fine-celled.
