♻️Upcycling

Do you know what the biggest sin in the kitchen is? Throwing away something great just because it didn't win a beauty contest or was left over from making something else. At Gurkerl, we love breathing new life into these ingredients. As the very first European grocer, we have created our own upcycling category, which we developed in collaboration with the experts at TransFoodMission. We simply take surplus food that would otherwise end up in the bin, and turn it into brand-new, high-quality products. We reduce waste and give food its value back. Simple. Delicious. With respect for nature.

And what exactly is upcycling?

Upcycling is an amazing process where we create new products from by-products and food that would otherwise end up as waste.
Think of it like a second-hand shop for food. For example: //local input: Spent grain from the brewery, which would normally be thrown away, is transformed into delicious crackers full of fibre and protein. Spent grain accounts for up to 85% of all waste in beer brewing, so why not put it to good use?//
This process not only reduces waste, but even preserves or improves the quality of the original ingredients, bringing forth new, innovative products that are environmentally friendly and unlock the potential of otherwise unused resources.
