A Viennese classic? Not quite, because the so-called "Viennese sausages" were invented by Johann Lahner in Frankfurt almost 200 years ago. He brought the sausage recipe to Vienna, where it was then renamed Frankfurter. A fine sausage meat made from pork and beef, filled into thin sheep casings and gently smoked, that's what makes the sausage. Let it steep in salted water over low heat for a few minutes, then it will become wonderfully plump and crispy to the bite.
