The Wizard of Oz - Musical by Harold Arlen
The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum is America's most famous fairy tale, which gained worldwide cult status through the film adaptation with the young Judy Garland (1939). The most famous song from it, "Over the Rainbow" by Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg, won the Oscar in 1940. The stage version of the masterpiece, directed by Henry Mason and with stage design by Jan Meier, also became a hit with audiences of all ages at the Volksoper.

Die Fledermaus - Operetta by Johann Strauss
Nowhere else is "Die Fledermaus" as at home as at the Volksoper Vienna. Premiered in Vienna in 1874, Johann Strauss's masterpiece is considered the pinnacle of the golden operetta era. People deceive and betray each other and blame alcohol for it, experiencing disguises, mix-ups, and love affairs in waltz time: "Happy is he who forgets" is the motto. And when, after a splendid supper at Prince Orlofsky's, the entire party meets again in prison, they quickly reconcile, for "it was all the champagne's fault."
