Scottopect Cough Syrup is a traditional herbal medicinal product used to help loosen phlegm and relieve coughs associated with the common cold.
Scottopect Cough Syrup is used in adults, adolescents and children aged 2 years and over.
The use of this traditional herbal medicinal product in the specified area of use is based exclusively on long-standing use.
If you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 1 week, consult your doctor.

Scottopect – Cough Syrup is a traditional herbal medicinal product used to help loosen phlegm and relieve coughs associated with the common cold.
This medicine is a traditional herbal medicinal product which is registered on the basis of long-standing use for the stated therapeutic indication.
Scottopect – Cough Syrup is used in adults, adolescents and children aged 2 years and over.
If you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 1 week, consult your doctor.
What you need to know before you take
What should you be aware of before using Scottopect – Cough Syrup?
Scottopect – Cough Syrup must not be taken,
- if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to thyme, wild thyme, ribwort, other plants of the Lamiaceae family (e.g. sage, lemon balm, peppermint) or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your pharmacist before taking Scottopect – Cough Syrup.
If you experience shortness of breath, fever, purulent or bloody sputum, you must consult a doctor.
Children
Use in children aged 2 to 4 years should only be on the advice of a doctor.
Use in children under 2 years is not recommended due to lack of data and because of the alcohol content.
Taking Scottopect – Cough Syrup with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or do not intend to take/use any other medicines.
No interaction studies have been performed.
No interactions have been reported to date.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
As there is insufficient data, the use of this medicine is not recommended during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
Driving and using machines
No studies on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines have been performed.
Scottopect – Cough Syrup contains alcohol and benzoic acid/benzoates and sugar
This medicine contains approximately 61 mg of alcohol (ethanol) per 5 ml.
The amount in 5 ml of this medicine is equivalent to less than 2 ml of beer or 1 ml of wine. The small amount of alcohol in this medicine will not have any noticeable effects.
This medicine contains 5 mg of benzoic acid E210 and 35 mg of sodium benzoate E211 per 5 ml.
This medicine contains sugar (sucrose). If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking Scottopect – Cough Syrup.
This medicine contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per 5 ml, i.e. it is essentially ‘sodium-free’.
Note for diabetics: 5 ml contains 0.17 BE.
How to take
How to take Scottopect – Cough Syrup?
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is
Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over: 4 to 6 times a day 5 ml
Children aged 6 to 11 years: 3 to 4 times a day 5 ml
Children aged 2 to 5 years: 1 to 3 times a day 5 ml
Method of administration
For oral use. The dosage is taken with the enclosed measuring cup.
Duration of use
If you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 1 week, consult your doctor.

If you have taken more Scottopect – Cough Syrup than you should, No cases of overdose are known.
If you forget to take Scottopect – Cough Syrup
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

Do not store above 25°C.
Store in the original package to protect from light.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and the bottle. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.
Shelf life after first opening: 6 months.
Do not dispose of medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

- The active ingredients in 100 g (= 86.5 ml) are:6.0 g Liquid extract from a mixture of
thyme (Thymi herba), wild thyme (Serpylli herba) and ribwort leaves (Plantaginis folium) in the ratio 2.5:2.5:1, extraction agent glycerol 85% m/m + ethanol
96% v/v + purified water (1:7.5:31.2 m/m/m), drug-extract ratio (DER) 1:2.9-3.3 - The other ingredients are: benzoic acid E210, sodium benzoate E211, sucrose, caramel E150a, ethanol 96% v/v, purified water
What Scottopect – Cough Syrup looks like and contents of the pack
Clear brown oral solution with a thyme odour in a brown glass bottle with a white polyethylene screw cap. A graduated polypropylene measuring cup is included.
