Winery Esterházy

The history of the winery begins with the construction of a castle cellar in Eisenstadt's Esterhazy Castle over 300 years ago and represents the new beginning of wine production in the entire area of today's northern Burgenland. Monsieur LeBon, a cellar master from Burgundy, planted Pinot Noir in Burgenland for the first time in 1758 and made wines from pure grape varieties for the first time.

The completion of the new winery building in Trausdorf in 2006 represents the second milestone in the history of the winery. More than 50 hectares were planted with the best grape clones and rootstocks after countless soil and site analyses. For this purpose, the best vines were selected from our oldest vineyards.

In the cellar, we take an unprejudiced approach and experiment with wine containers such as eggs, amphorae, barrels and wooden barrels made of local Leithaberg oak. In addition to wood and stainless steel, we also use materials such as granite, concrete, ceramics and clay to age our wines. Wines that are typical of the region and variety at the absolute top level in combination with a clear Esterhazy signature will remain our driving force in the future.
