Antioxidant and energy supplier! Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) has vitamin character and occupies key positions in cellular energy metabolism. As a vitaminoid, it is indispensable for organs with high energy requirements (e.g. heart, liver, kidney, pancreas) and is needed directly in the mitochondria. Coenzyme Q10 is partly produced by the body itself - but this ability decreases with age. Furthermore, intense exercise and mental stress can significantly reduce CoQ10 levels in the blood. As one of the strongest fat-soluble radical scavengers, CoQ10 protects cells from damage caused by oxidative stress (= increased release of free radicals).
