Pear Nashi

Pear from the Asian region

The Nashi pear owes its name to the Japanese, because in Japanese Nashi means: pear. 

The skin is  smooth or rough depending on the variety. Its base colour is consistently light yellow.  The flesh is very juicy and almost watery and has a sweet and sour aroma, which is also reminiscent of an apple. The fruits contain vitamin C, potassium, calcium and phosphorus. 

The harvest time usually begins from August or the beginning of September and can be stored until the end of January. For some years it has also been cultivated in other countries. Due to the fact that the Nashi pear has similar site requirements to the cultivated pear, it can also be cultivated in Central Europe. 

Storage recommendation

Pears should not be stored in the refrigerator, but rather in dark, cool storage rooms.
