How is it used?
WHAT IS HERPOSICC AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
Herposicc is a lip ointment with a slightly pain-relieving effect.
Herposicc is used for the local symptomatic treatment of herpes labialis (cold sores). The active ingredient benzocaine has a pain-relieving effect, while zinc oxide has a slightly astringent and anti-inflammatory effect.
If you do not feel better or even worse after a few days, contact your doctor.
What should you consider before taking it?

Herposicc must not be used,
- if you are allergic to benzocaine, zinc oxide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
- in infants and young children up to 2 years of age.
Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Herposicc.
It is recommended not to expose yourself excessively to sunlight and to avoid UV radiation (sunlamp, solarium).
If symptoms persist or if the expected success is not achieved with the application, medical advice is required as soon as possible.
Children and adolescents
There are no data on the safety and efficacy of Herposicc in infants and children up to 2 years of age. Herposicc must therefore not be used in infants and young children up to 2 years of age.
Using Herposicc with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using other medicines, have recently taken/used other medicines or intend to take/use other medicines.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Herposicc should only be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if medically necessary, and may only be applied to the lips.
Driving and operating machinery
No special precautions are required.
Herposicc contains phenol, wool fat and wool fat alcohol ointment
Phenol, wool fat alcohol ointment and wool fat (lanolin) can cause localized skin irritations (e.g. contact dermatitis) in larger quantities. Hypersensitivity to wool fat alcohols cannot be ruled out.
How should the medicine be taken?
HOW TO USE HERPOSICC?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
For use on the skin (only on the lips).
If necessary, apply a pea-sized amount of ointment thinly to the lips several times a day. The ointment should be applied as early as possible. The duration of use depends on the duration of the illness.
If you have used more Herposicc than you should
If you use large amounts of Herposicc, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.

What side effects are possible?
WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE?
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Very rare (affects less than 1 in 10,000 treated patients):
From literature case reports, it is known that the use of benzocaine on mucous membranes can very rarely lead to methemoglobinemia. An increased methemoglobin content in the blood leads to oxygen deficiency and blue-red discoloration of the skin.
Rare (affects 1 to 10 in 10,000 treated patients):
In rare cases, local irritation may occur.

Special storage instructions
HOW TO STORE HERPOSICC?
Do not store above 25°C.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the tube after "Use by:". The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not dispose of medicines in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines when you no longer use them. You are helping to protect the environment.

What Herposicc contains
- The active ingredients are: Benzocaine and Zinc Oxide
1 g of ointment contains 14 mg benzocaine and 36 mg zinc oxide.
- The other ingredients are: Yellow petroleum jelly, wool fat alcohol ointment, wool fat, talc, sulfur for external use, phenol.
