Mucopolysaccharide polysulphuric acid ester, the active ingredient of Hirudoid, has an anti-inflammatory effect.
Application
1. WHAT IS HIRUDOID GEL AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
Mucopolysaccharide polysulphuric acid ester, the active ingredient of Hirudoid, has an anti-inflammatory effect. It prevents the formation and promotes the regression of superficial blood clots, bruises and swellings and promotes the regeneration of connective tissue.
Hirudoid Gel is used for the local treatment of:
- Blunt injuries with or without bruising
- Inflammation of superficial veins, if these cannot be treated by compression.
How is it used?
WHAT IS Hirudoid Gel AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
Mucopolysaccharide polysulphuric acid ester, the active ingredient of Hirudoid, has an anti-inflammatory effect. It prevents the formation and promotes the regression of superficial blood clots, bruises and swellings and promotes the regeneration of connective tissue.
Hirudoid Gel is used for the local treatment of:
- Blunt injuries with or without bruising
- Inflammation of superficial veins, if these cannot be treated by compression.
What should you consider before taking it?
WHAT SHOULD YOU CONSIDER BEFORE USING Hirudoid Gel?
Hirudoid Gel must not be used,
- if you are allergic to mucopolysaccharide polysulphuric acid ester or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
- on open wounds, inflammations, in purulent processes or infections of the skin - on the eye and on mucous membranes
Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Hirudoid Gel.
If the symptoms persist or if the expected success is not achieved by the application, medical advice is required as soon as possible.
Use of Hirudoid Gel together with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking / using, have recently taken / used or intend to take / use any other medicines.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
The use of the preparation during pregnancy and breast-feeding is possible.
Driving and using machines
So far, no effects on driving and operating
Machines are known.
Hirudoid Gel contains propylene glycol
This medicine contains 500 mg propylene glycol per 100 g gel. Propylene glycol can cause skin irritation.
How should the medicine be taken?
HOW TO USE Hirudoid Gel?
To open the tube for the first time, pierce the aluminium foil at the opening with the spike embedded in the tube cap!
A gel strand of 3 - 5 cm (more if necessary) is applied to the affected area once or several times a day.
The treatment usually lasts up to 10 days for blunt trauma, 1-2 weeks for superficial phlebitis.
Hirudoid Gel is also suitable for physical treatment methods, such as phonophoresis. If Hirudoid is to be used in conjunction with iontophoresis, the gel is applied under the cathode.
Use in children and adolescents
There is insufficient experience in children and adolescents. Therefore, use in this age group is not recommended.

What side effects are possible?

This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
The shelf life after opening the tube is 1 year.
Do not dispose of medicines in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you stop using it. You help to protect the environment.

What Hirudoid Gel contains
- The active ingredient is mucopolysaccharide polysulphuric acid ester.
100 g gel contains:
Mucopolysaccharide polysulphuric acid ester 0.3 g
(Organo-Heparinoid "Luitpold") equivalent to 25,000 U.*
* Units determined by the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT).
- The other ingredients are:
Isopropanol, carbomer, propylene glycol, sodium hydroxide, purified water. What Hirudoid Gel looks like and contents of the pack
Hirudoid Gel is a clear, colourless gel.
Pack sizes:
Packs of 40 g, 100 g, 10 x 40 g, 10 x 100 g in aluminium tubes.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
