REUSABLE BAG SERVICE

Paper or reusable? The choice is yours.

By default, goods are delivered in single-use paper bags, which you can return to the delivery person for recycling. In accordance with the General Terms and Conditions of Gurkerl.at GmbH, we charge a flat fee per order. The flat fee applies per order, regardless of how many paper bags your order is delivered in. The specific amount of the flat fee will be displayed at checkout.

If you want to make a more sustainable choice, opt for reusable bags—sturdy, reusable bags made from recycled PET bottles.

You shop more sustainably, without unnecessary packaging or complicated logistics. Simply select reusable bags at checkout—we’ll take care of the rest.

ACTIVATING THE SERVICE

How to activate

Simply select "reusable bags" in the "Packaging" section when you complete your order. By doing so, you agree to these terms and conditions.

Xtra Membership

  • The reusable bag service is automatically active for Xtra members, with no deposit required.
  • Any deposit already paid will be refunded as store credit; upon explicit request, it can also be refunded in cash.
  • New Xtra members who have not yet paid a deposit can use the service immediately and free of charge.

Xtra-Free Membership, Xtra Trial Membership, and Non-Xtra Customers

  • The reusable bag service is available to Xtra-Free members. Customers with Xtra trial memberships and non-Xtra customers can use the service after paying the deposit.
  • The deposit will be added to your first order delivered in reusable bags. If the deposit is not paid or has been refunded prior to delivery, it will be charged with your next delivery in reusable bags. The amount of the deposit will be displayed at checkout.

How does it all work?

In all cases, the bags remain the property of Gurkerl.at. It is your responsibility to gradually return the bags to the courier with future orders so that we can clean, inspect, and reuse them. This reduces waste, saves time, and helps protect the environment.

How many bags can you keep?

To make the system sustainable for everyone involved, we’ve limited the maximum number of bags you can currently “keep” (i.e., haven’t returned yet):

  • Xtra members: max. 25 bags
  • Xtra-Free members, Xtra trial members, and non-Xtra members: max. 20 bags

If you exceed your limit, your order may be delivered in paper bags instead—until you return some of the bags. You can check your current bag count at any time in your account or in the mobile app.

Bags can only be returned by handing them over to the courier when you receive a new order.

Examples

Example 1 – Customer with an Xtra membership:

A customer with an active Xtra membership receives 14 reusable bags with their first order. With their second order, they receive another 12 bags, bringing their total to 26 bags at home.

If you return at least one bag with the second delivery (for a total of 25), you stay within the limit and the next order will be delivered in reusable bags again.

However, if you don’t return any bags and end up with more than 25, the system will recognize that the limit has been reached—and future orders may be delivered in paper bags. You can only use reusable bags again after you’ve returned some.

Example 2 – Customer without Xtra membership:

A non-Xtra member first orders goods in reusable bags and receives 15 bags. On the next order, they receive another 6, thereby exceeding the maximum of 20 bags.

If you do not return any bags with your next order, the next order may be delivered in paper bags.

As soon as you return at least one reusable bag with a future order, the goods will be delivered in reusable bags again—until the limit is exceeded again.

CANCEL THE REUSABLE BAG SERVICE

You can cancel the reusable bag service at any time—without giving a reason and without additional conditions.

Cancellation for Xtra members

If you cancel your Xtra membership or stop using the service and no longer have any reusable bags at home, you can simply choose to have your order delivered in paper bags and pay the corresponding flat fee. However, if you still have reusable bags, they remain the property of Gurkerl.at GmbH. You can either continue using the reusable bag service—in which case the standard deposit for the existing reusable bags will be due with your next order after canceling your Xtra membership—or you can decide to stop using the reusable bags altogether. In this case, you must return the bags. If you do not use the service or do not pay the deposit within six months, Gurkerl.at reserves the right to reclaim the reusable bags.

Want to use the service again? Simply activate it with your next order by selecting the "reusable bags" option.

Cancellation for Xtra-Free Membership, Xtra Trial Membership, and Non-Xtra Members

If you have activated the service by paying the deposit and decide to cancel, you are entitled to a refund—provided you return all reusable bags delivered by Gurkerl.at.

  • Cancellations and refund requests can only be made by phone via the Gurkerl.at customer hotline: 0720 70 4100 or by email: kunden@gurkerl.at
  • The deposit will be refunded within 14 days in one of the following ways:
  • A credit to your Gurkerl.at customer account (credits never expire and can be used for future purchases), or
  • A bank transfer to the account used for the original payment—if expressly requested.

After cancellation, the service can be reactivated at any time—simply select the "Reusable Bags" option again at checkout. In this case, a new deposit will be required.

FINAL PROVISIONS

  • These terms and conditions are available in German and English. In the event of discrepancies between the language versions, the German version shall prevail.

Gurkerl.at is not liable for damages or consequential damages if reusable bags are temporarily unavailable—for example, due to supply shortages, delivery interruptions, or other extraordinary circumstances. In such cases, Gurkerl.at reserves the right to temporarily deliver the goods in paper bags.

We will do our utmost to restore the reusable bag service as quickly as possible. However, if it is not possible to deliver in reusable bags for more than 90 days due to capacity or technical reasons, your deposit will be refunded—provided all bags are returned.

Any use of the reusable bag service is subject to Austrian law, excluding international private law. Furthermore, we refer to our General Terms and Conditions, which apply in a subordinate capacity. Austrian courts have exclusive jurisdiction over the resolution of disputes. If the customer is a business entity, the courts at the registered office of Gurkerl.at have exclusive jurisdiction.

Gurkerl.at reserves the right to amend or supplement these terms and conditions at any time in a reasonable manner. You will be notified in advance by email or other appropriate means to give you the opportunity to review the new version. If you do not agree with the changes, you have the right to cancel the service and request a refund of the deposit—provided that all bags are returned.
