What is Kytta Pain Ointment and what is it used for?
Kytta Pain Ointment is a herbal medicine for the external treatment of
- Joint and muscle pain
- Pain and swelling in knee osteoarthritis due to wear and tear or cartilage loss
- acute muscle pain (myalgia) in the back
- sprains, bruises and strains after sports and accident injuries
If you do not feel better or even worse after 3-4 days, contact your doctor.

What you should know before taking
What should you consider before using Kytta Pain Ointment?
Kytta Pain Ointment must not be used,
- if you are allergic to comfrey, peanuts, soy or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
- Kytta Pain Ointment must not be applied to open wounds.
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Kytta Pain Ointment.
Do not apply to irritated skin or open wounds. Application should only be made to intact skin. Contact with eyes or mucous membranes should be avoided.
After application, hands should be washed thoroughly.
Patients using Kytta Pain Ointment for the first time should test the medicine for tolerance on a small area, e.g. on the wrist.
See a doctor if symptoms do not improve within 3 - 4 days.
Children
Use in children aged 3 to 6 years should only be on the recommendation of a doctor.
There are no clinical data on the efficacy and safety or dosage in children under 3 years of age. As there is insufficient data, use in children under 3 years of age cannot be recommended.
Use of Kytta Pain Ointment with other medicines
No interactions with other medicines are known to date.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or intend to take/use any other medicines.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
As there is insufficient data, use during pregnancy and breast-feeding cannot be recommended.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Driving and using machines
Kytta Pain Ointment has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
Kytta Pain Ointment contains parabens, peanut oil, benzyl benzoate and cetyl stearyl alcohol. Parabens can cause allergic reactions, including late reactions.
Cetyl stearyl alcohol can cause local skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis). Peanut oil: Kytta Pain Ointment must not be used if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to peanuts or soy.
Benzyl benzoate can cause local irritation. Benzyl benzoate can increase jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) in newborns (up to 4 weeks old).
How to take the medicine
How to use Kytta Pain Ointment?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is:
Adults, adolescents and children aged 3 years and over:
Depending on the size of the body part to be treated and the severity of the symptoms, apply a quantity of ointment corresponding to the painful area 2 to 4 times a day to the affected body part and massage in thoroughly so that a thin film of ointment is formed on the skin.
The following quantities are recommended as a guideline:
- for the treatment of ankle injuries and knee osteoarthritis: 2 g (equivalent to a 6 cm strip of ointment).
- for the treatment of back pain: 4 g (equivalent to a 12 cm strip of ointment).
Method of administration
For application to the skin.
Duration of use
If you do not feel better or even worse after 3-4 days, contact your doctor.
Use in children
In children aged 3 to 12 years, the duration of use is limited to 7 days.
Use in children aged 3 to 6 years should only be on the recommendation of a doctor.
Children under 3 years of age:
There are no clinical data on the efficacy and safety or dosage in children under 3 years of age. As there is insufficient data, use in children under 3 years of age cannot be recommended.
If you have used more Kytta Pain Ointment than you should
No cases of overdose are known.
If you forget to use Kytta Pain Ointment
Do not use double the amount to make up for the missed application.
If you stop using Kytta Pain Ointment
An interruption or premature termination of treatment is harmless.
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

How to store Kytta Pain Ointment?
Do not store above 30°C.
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and label after "Exp.". The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
After opening the original seal, the contents of the tube may not be used for more than 1 year.
Do not dispose of medicines in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you stop using it. You help to protect the environment.

What Kytta Pain Ointment contains
- The active ingredient is: Liquid extract of fresh comfrey root 100 g contains 35 g
Liquid extract of fresh comfrey root (Symphyti radix recens, drug-extract ratio (DEV) 1:2), extractant: Ethanol 60 % (v/v)
- The other ingredients are: Parabens ((Iso)Butyl-, Ethyl-, Methyl-, Propyl-4-
hydroxybenzoate, Phenoxyethanol), Cetyl stearyl alcohol, Glycerol monostearate, Sodium dodecyl sulfate, Peanut oil, Purified water, Lavender oil, Spruce needle oil, Perfume oil Special (contains benzyl benzoate, rosemary oil).
What Kytta Pain Ointment looks like and contents of the pack
Beige-white ointment.
An aluminium tube with screw cap contains 12.5 g, 50 g, 100 g or 150 g ointment. Unscrew cap, turn upside down, press in sealed tube with rotating movement.
