Description
Cultivated blueberries, unlike our native wild blueberries, grow on strong shrubs up to 2 m high. Their berries are larger than those of their wild relatives. The skin of the berries is blue-black, while the flesh is light with reddish fruit juice. Therefore, you hardly get a blue mouth when eating them. The taste of the fruits is sweet and sour with a fine forest aroma.
Origin
Blueberries grow mainly in the northern hemisphere from the Arctic to the Mediterranean countries. In addition to domestic production, we also receive blueberries from the Netherlands, France, Poland, Romania, Hungary and Italy. The harvest time is from June to September.
Tips
Unwashed fruits can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days at low temperatures.
Preparation
Rinse blueberries cold before preparing and drain. They are suitable for eating fresh as well as for adding to fruit salads, ice cream, puddings, omelettes or fruit bowls. Sweetened with milk, whipped cream or yoghurt, they are a delicious, refreshing delicacy. Since the juice of blueberries has a particularly good gelling capacity, they can be used to make excellent jams or jellies.

For more than 30 years now, organic berries such as raspberries, blueberries, golden berries (=physalis), currants (=red, white and black currants), goji berries, table grapes and the unique Weinviertel kiwi have been ripening into aromatically sweet fruits in our garden. The fully ripe organic berries are carefully hand-picked and processed into natural and healthy delicacies of the highest quality. All fruits and products are organically produced - from our own fruits, by hand and by ourselves.

Storage recommendation
Berries have a short shelf life. They stay fresh the longest when stored consistently cool and dry, ideally unwashed in a shallow container in the refrigerator. It is important to make sure that they do not lie in their own juice or in condensation water, as this promotes mould formation.
