Desitin - Ointment is a wound and healing ointment, which contains cod liver oil and zinc oxide as active ingredients.
Application
1. WHAT IS DESITIN - OINTMENT AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
Desitin - Ointment is a wound and healing ointment, which contains cod liver oil and zinc oxide as active ingredients. The contained cod liver oil is rich in vitamin A and unsaturated fatty acids and thus stimulates the formation of new tissue. Zinc oxide has disinfecting and absorbent properties.
Areas of application:
To support wound healing in superficial inflammatory skin diseases (e.g. weeping inflammations in the area of body folds, skin irritations in the diaper area) as well as in minor burns (e.g. minor sunburn).
If you do not feel better or even worse after 3-5 days, consult your doctor.

What should you consider before using Desitin - Ointment?
Desitin - Ointment must not be used,
if you are allergic to cod liver oil, zinc oxide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your pharmacist before using Desitin - Ointment.
Contact with eyes and mucous membranes should be avoided.
Before using the ointment, an infection of the wound (e.g. the wound is purulent) must be ruled out. If a wound infection occurs, a doctor should be consulted.
Use of Desitin - Ointment together with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or intend to take/use any other medicines.
The simultaneous use of Desitin - Ointment and other topical medicines (such as medicines containing antibiotics, dithranol or salicylic acid) on the same skin areas may impair their effect.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Desitin - Ointment can be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding, but large-scale use should be avoided.
During breast-feeding, Desitin - Ointment must not be applied to the breast. Driving and using machines
No special precautions are required.
Desitin - Ointment contains cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol and wool wax (lanolin)
These ingredients can cause localized skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis).
How should the medicine be taken?
How to use Desitin - Ointment?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
For application to the skin.
Apply Desitin - Ointment several times a day, as thick as a knife blade, directly to the affected skin areas or to clean dressing material and place it on the wound surface to be treated. The edges of the wound should be covered by a finger's width.
Ointment residues in the area around the wound can be removed with wound petrolatum or pure vegetable oil.

What side effects are possible?
How to store Desitin - Ointment?
Do not store above 25 °C.
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and the tube after "EXP". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.
After first opening the tube, it can be stored for 3 months.
Do not dispose of medicines in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you stop using it. In this way, you help to protect the environment.

What Desitin - Ointment contains:
- The active ingredients are: cod liver oil and zinc oxide
100 g ointment contains: 13 g cod liver oil
30 g zinc oxide
- The other ingredients are: white petrolatum, solid paraffin, anhydrous Eucerin, wool wax (lanolin), talcum, methyl salicylate and purified water.
What Desitin - Ointment looks like and contents of the pack
Almost white to very slightly yellow ointment with a slight smell of cod liver oil.
Aluminium tubes with 20 g or 50 g ointment.
