General information on painkillers
Painkiller headache
Prolonged high-dose use of painkillers not in accordance with their intended purpose may cause headaches caused by the painkiller itself. These must therefore not be treated by increased doses of the drug.
Kidney damage
The habitual use of painkillers, especially when several analgesic agents are combined, can lead to permanent kidney damage with the risk of kidney failure (nephropathy).
Discontinuation of painkillers
If painkillers are discontinued abruptly after prolonged high-dose, non-intended use, headaches as well as tiredness, muscle pain, nervousness and other complaints such as sweating, dizziness, trembling, palpitations may occur. These symptoms disappear within a few days. Until then, painkillers should not be taken again and should not be taken again without medical advice. Medicines containing caffeine should only be taken in low doses in the case of
- irregular heartbeat with increased pulse rate,
- liver disease (cirrhosis of the liver),
- hyperthyroidism,
- anxiety disorder,
- stomach and duodenal ulcer.
