What is AquaTears eye gel and what is it used for?

AquaTears eye gel replaces the tear fluid of the eye, the active ingredient carbomer is used to moisten the eye.
AquaTears eye gel is used to treat unpleasant side effects of "dry eye" (soreness, burning, irritation or dryness) and in cases where the cornea and conjunctiva are not adequately moistened with tear fluid.
If you do not feel better or even worse after a few days, consult your doctor.

AquaTears - Eye Gel replaces the tear fluid of the eye, the active substance carbomer serves to moisten the eye.
AquaTears - eye gel is used to treat unpleasant accompanying symptoms of "dry eye" (soreness, burning, irritation or dryness) and in cases of insufficient wetting of the cornea and conjunctiva with tear fluid.
If you do not feel better or even worse after a few days, contact your doctor.

What should you pay attention to before taking it?

What should you consider before using AquaTears - Eye Gel?

AquaTears - Eye Gel must not be used if you are allergic to carbomer or any of the other ingredients (e.g. preservatives) listed in section 6.

Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using AquaTears - Eye Gel, especially
- if you have eye pain, tearing or redness.
- if the treated eye condition worsens or remains the same.
It is not excluded in the above cases that you may be hypersensitive to AquaTears - Eye Gel. In this case, discontinue therapy and consult a doctor/eye specialist.
Children and adolescents up to 18 years
The efficacy and safety in children and adolescents at the recommended adult dosage is based on clinical experience. No data from clinical trials are available.

Use of AquaTears - Eye Gel with other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or do not intend to take/use any other medicines.

In case of additional treatment with other medicinal products for application to the eye, there should be at least a period of 15 minutes between the applications of the two medicinal products. AquaTears - Eye Gel should always be administered last.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Driveability and ability to operate machinery
After dripping, due to the nature of the eye gel, blurred vision occurs temporarily and lasts until the gel is completely distributed on the surface of the eye (generally a few minutes). This impairs the ability to actively participate in road traffic or to operate machines for this short period of time. You should therefore wait for these activities until you can see clearly again.

AquaTears - Eye Gel contains benzalkonium chloride
AquaTears - Eye Gel contains benzalkonium chloride as a preservative. Benzalkonium chloride may cause irritation to the eye. Avoid contact with soft contact lenses. Contact lenses must be removed before use and must not be reinserted until at least 30 minutes after use. Benzalkonium chloride has been known to discolour soft contact lenses.

How should the medicine be taken?

How to use AquaTears - Eye Gel?

Always use AquaTears - Eye Gel exactly as described in this leaflet or as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Adults:
Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, instil 1 drop into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye 1-4 times daily or more frequently, depending on the severity of the condition.

Children and adolescents up to 18 years:
The efficacy and safety in children and adolescents at the recommended adult dosage is based on clinical experience. There are no data from clinical studies.
Style of use:
Do not ingest!
Do not use the vial if the seal around the cap is not in order when first opened.
The gel remains sterile until the cap is opened for the first time.
Do not allow the dropper to come into contact with any surface, including the eye, as this may cause injury and contaminate the solution.

This medicine is intended for use on the eye.

Wash your hands thoroughly before using the medicine.
To avoid infection, do not touch the eye or the area around the eye with the tip of the vial.
Close the vial immediately after use.

Instructions for use:

.

1.	Pull down gently on the lid of the eye that needs treatment until a small
"Pocket" results.
2.	Turn the vial upside down and squeeze it until 1 gel drop drops into the eyelid.
3.	Leave the eyelid out and close and open the eye several times.
4.	Repeat steps 1 - 3 on the other eye if it also needs treatment.

Note for contact lens wearers: See section "AquaTears - Eye Gel Fluid contains benzalkonium chloride".

The duration of treatment depends on the condition of the disease. If the symptoms do not improve or worsen within a few days, consult a doctor or ophthalmologist. Preservative-free eye products should be used for long-term use.
Once you have started treatment, you must only use the eye gel for 4 weeks after you first open it. See also section 5. "How to store AquaTears - Eye Gel".

If you have applied a larger amount of AquaTears - Eye Gel than you should.
There is no danger from a higher dose, even if accidentally swallowed.

If you have forgotten to use AquaTears - Eye Gel.
Do not use twice the amount if you have forgotten to use it before, but continue the treatment as recommended.

If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

What are the possible side effects?

How should AquaTears - Eye Gel be stored?

Do not store above 25°C. Do not freeze.
Store in the original packaging with the tip down to protect the contents from light. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the outside carton/bottle label after "EXP". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.

The bottle must not be used for longer than 4 weeks after first opening In any case, the remaining contents must be discarded 4 weeks after opening.

Do not dispose of medicines in waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you stop using it. In doing so, they contribute to the protection of the environment.

What AquaTears - Eye Gel contains
- The active substance is carbomer 974P. 1 g eye gel contains: 2.5 mg carbomer 974 P
1 g (corresponding to 0.98 ml) corresponds to an average of 40 drops.
- The other ingredients are: Benzalkonium chloride, sorbitol, lysine monohydrate, sodium acetate trihydrate, polyvinyl alcohol, water for injections.

What AquaTears - Eye Gel looks like and contents of the pack
AquaTears - Eye Gel is a light brownish-yellow opalescent eye gel in a plastic bottle with a screw cap.
pH 7.0 - 7.6
Each vial contains 10g of eye gel.
Each pack contains 1 vial.
