The antioxidants vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B2 as well as zinc, selenium, copper and manganese contribute to the protection of the cells against oxidative stress. Secondary plant compounds, such as carotenoids and citrus bioflavonoids, also have antioxidant properties. The mucosa (mucous membrane) of the respiratory tract plays an important role as a barrier against germs of all kinds. Vitamin A, vitamin B2, biotin and niacin contribute to the maintenance of normal mucous membranes.
