Tannalbin is a diarrhoea-reducing preparation made from a substance containing tannic acid and protein. Particularly suitable for the treatment of summer diarrhoea, when travelling due to unfamiliar food and poor hygiene conditions.
Tannalbin rapidly reduces the water content of the stool, thereby improving its firmness and stopping bothersome urges to defecate.
Applications
Supportive therapy of acute (sudden-onset) diarrhoeal diseases, especially summer and travellers' diarrhoea.

Tannalbin rapidly reduces the water content of the stool, thereby improving its firmness and stopping bothersome urges to defecate.
Applications
Supportive therapy of acute (sudden onset) diarrhoeal diseases, especially
summer and travel diarrhoea.
This medicine is used in children from 6 years of age, adolescents and adults.
If you do not feel better or even worse after 3-4 days (24 hours in the case of children), consult your doctor.
What should you pay attention to before taking it?
What should you be aware of before taking tannalbin?
Tannalbin must not be taken
- If you are allergic to tannin buminate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
- for hypersensitivity to dairy products.
- for injuries to the intestinal mucosa.
- for intestinal diseases with bloody stools.
- for prolonged or chronic diarrhoeal diseases such as organically caused
digestive disorders (e.g. colitis), ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease
(chronic inflammatory bowel disease). - for infectious diarrhoeal diseases such as salmonellosis (typhoid,
paratyphoid). These must not be treated exclusively with tannalbin. In such cases, seek medical advice immediately.
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Tannalbin.
If the diarrhoea is accompanied by fever and/or bloody stools, consult a doctor.
If children have diarrhoea accompanied by vomiting, a doctor should be consulted without fail.
If you have diarrhoea, it is very important to drink enough (water and electrolyte solutions).
Children and the elderly
In children and the elderly, diarrhoea can occur, among other things in combination with
Vomiting, leading to a dangerous loss of water and electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium) in a very short time.
If the intestinal mucosa is injured, the unchanged substance can be absorbed through the mucosa and lead to liver damage.
Children under 6 years
Use in children under 6 years of age is not recommended due to lack of data.
Taking tannalbin with other medicines.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or intend to take/use any other medicines.
This includes medicines containing the following substances:
- Acids, alkalis, iron salts, lead, antimony, silver, albumin, gelatine and oxidising
substances. - Tannin should not be taken together with charcoal, because tannin
reduces the ability of charcoal to bind substances.
The effect of the preparation is supported by diet. Foods rich in slag and strongly spiced should be avoided. Simultaneous water and electrolyte replacement is also important, especially for children and older people.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Do not take tannalbin during pregnancy or when breast-feeding.
Driving ability and ability to operate machines
No studies have been carried out on the effects on the ability to drive and operate machinery.
How should the medicine be taken?
How should Tannalbin be taken?
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The most important measure in acute diarrhoea is primarily water and electrolyte intake, this cannot be replaced by taking Tannalbin tablets.
The recommended dose is:
Adults:
Until the effect is felt, 1-2 tablets at 1-2 hourly intervals, but not more than 12 tablets per day
Children 6 years and older and adolescents:
1 - max. 2 tablets 3 - 4 times daily (but maximum 6 tablets per day).
Normally, the effect occurs within a few hours to a day, after which the dose must be reduced.
Type of application
Ingestion.
The tablets are to be taken with some liquid.
Duration of use
If you do not feel better or even worse after 3-4 days (24 hours for children), consult your doctor.
Do not carry out treatment for longer than 1 week.
Use in children
Use in children under 6 years of age is not recommended due to lack of data.
If you have taken a larger amount of tannalbin than you should
After taking larger amounts, stomach upset, dizziness and vomiting
may occur. No cases of poisoning have been reported so far.
If you have forgotten to take tannalbin
Do not take twice the amount if you have forgotten to take it before.
If you have any further questions about taking this medicine, ask your doctor
or pharmacist.
What are the possible side effects?
How to store Tannalbin?
Do not store above 30 °C.
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
You must not use this medicinal product after the expiry date which is stated on the blister strip and the outer carton after "used by" or "expiry date". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.
Do not dispose of medicines in waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you stop using it. In doing so, they contribute to the protection of the environment.

HOW SHOULD TANNALBIN TALBET BE STORED?
Do not store above 30°C.
Store medicine out of the reach of children.
Note expiry date. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the pack. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.

What Tannalbin tablets contain
- The active ingredient is: tannin buminate. 1 tablet contains 500 mg tannin buminate.
- The other ingredients are: highly dispersed silicon dioxide and stearic acid .
Round, biconvex, brown, dark speckled tablets 12 mm in diameter.
30 tablets in blister pack: aluminium blister foil sealable against PVC and PVDC-coated PVC.
