Description
Peaches are distinguished by fruits with velvety, downy hair with either light or heavy stone solubility, with white-fleshed and yellow-fleshed varieties. Fruits with smooth skin are nectarines. The peach fruit is round with a distinct longitudinal groove, the silky hairy skin is yellow to red in colour. The juicy sweet and highly aromatic flesh, which encloses a hard core, makes the peach such a popular fruit.
Origin
The peach originates from China. Cultivation takes place in all countries of the world with a warm-temperate climate, in the subtropical summer rainfall area as in higher altitudes of the tropics. Italy is considered the "peach garden of Europe", with further significant cultivation taking place in France, Spain, Greece, the USA, South America, Australia and South Africa.

Peaches are sensitive to impact and pressure. Their storage capacity is limited.
Preparation
Peaches are mainly eaten raw. Their use in fruit salads, compotes, jams, preserves, fruit punch or for rum pot guarantees a fruity delicacy. As a "rolling peach", the peach, pierced all around, floating in a glass filled with sparkling wine is a well-known delicacy.
