What is Sensicutan ointment and what is it used for?

Sensicutan is a cortisone-free ointment. Sensicutan ointment contains the two active ingredients bisabolol and heparin sodium. This coordinated and balanced combination leads to an anti-inflammatory effect with rapid onset of action and relieves the often unpleasant itching. The skin-friendly emulsion system of the ointment base allows Sensicutan ointment to be used on dry, normal and moist skin.

Sensicutan ointment is used as an additional treatment for inflammatory, non-infectious, severely itchy skin conditions.
If you do not feel better or even worse after one to two weeks, consult your doctor.

What should you pay attention to before taking it?

What should you be aware of before using Sensicutan ointment?
Sensicutan ointment must not be used:
- if you are allergic to bisabolol, or heparin sodium or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
- If you have a tendency to bleed or a reduced platelet count, do not use heparin preparations.

Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Sensicutan Ointment. Sensicutan ointment should not come into contact with open wounds, the eyes and mucous membranes.
If you are still using heparin in another form, please discuss this with your doctor.
If an allergic reaction occurs, discontinue use immediately.

In pregnant women and children, avoid long-term use over large areas.

Use Sensicutan Ointment with other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or are planning to take/use any other medicines.

No interactions of Sensicutan ointment with other medicines are known so far.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Use during pregnancy and the breast-feeding period may be allowed if used as directed, for a short period of time and according to current knowledge.

Driving and ability to operate machinery
No effects.

Sensicutan ointment contains sorbic acid. Sorbic acid may cause localised skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis)

How should the medicine be taken?

How to use Sensicutan ointment?

Push the spike through the protective membrane of the tube to open it for the first time.
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is:

The ointment should be applied 2-3 times a day to the affected areas of skin.

Application should not be for longer than 1-2 weeks.

Use in children and adolescents

As there is insufficient data, use in children under 3 years of age is not recommended.

If you have used a larger amount of Sensicutan Ointment than you shouldno effects are expected.

If you forget to use Sensicutan Ointment
Do not use twice the amount if you have forgotten to use it before.

What Sensicutan ointment contains

The active ingredients are: 100 g contain: Bisabolol 0.30 g, Heparin sodium 20 000 I.U.

The other ingredients are: Fatty alcohols ethoxylated, almond oil, medium chain triglycerides, myristyl alcohol, citric acid, collagen hydrolysate, α-tocopherol acetate, dexpanthenol, sorbic acid 0.1 g, salicylic acid 0.3 g, purified water.
