Here I come from!
Figs originally come from the Orient and are still primarily grown in the Middle East, the Mediterranean region and California. Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Algeria and Italy are considered to be the main growing areas.
Why I am so healthy?
Even weight-conscious people can eat fresh figs without hesitation. 10 grams of figs have an average of 75 kilocalories (kcal). In addition to the low fat content, figs contain a lot of vitamin A, vitamin B, folic acid, biotin and magnesium. The fruit also promotes digestion and is often used against constipation.
How to store me properly!
Fresh figs should be eaten as soon as possible. Until then, they are stored covered, lying freely next to each other in the refrigerator.
How you can tell that I am ripe!
The figs are optimally ripe when the flower head bursts open and the fig begins to "juice".
Intended use
Figs are almost exclusively eaten raw. To do this, the well-chilled fruit is halved lengthwise and spooned out or quartered and the pulp removed from the skin. Fresh figs go well with hearty side dishes such as cheese, ham and salami, as an addition to fruit salads or processed into compote, puree or jam. Figs give meat and poultry dishes a refined, oriental touch. To enhance the taste of the figs a little more, you can drizzle the fruit halves with a little lime juice.
