The Piel de Sapo melon is one of the varieties of honeydew melon. In addition to the yellow, cantaloupe and Galia melon, the membership of the pumpkin family is also shared with cucumber, pumpkin or luffa and bitter cucumber Momordica.
The Piel de Sapo melon has a very similar shape to a yellow melon and resembles a rugby ball in various sizes. The surface of this watermelon is just as uneven as that of the yellow watermelon, but its colour is medium green with dark green and yellow spots. There is a yellow cheek at the point where the watermelon lay on the ground. The flesh of the Piel de Sapo melon is white to light yellow, depending on the degree of ripeness. The flesh is about 4 cm thick and the cavity in it is filled with seeds, which are arranged in three slimy sacs arranged lengthwise.
The taste and smell of the Piel de Sapo melon are similar to those of the yellow melon. It is sweet and pleasantly aromatic. When fully ripe, the consistency is reminiscent of ripe, very juicy nectarines.
Storage recommendation
A whole melon is best stored at room temperature. Already cut pieces stay fresh the longest in the refrigerator, covered with cling film.
