The Saturn peach gets its name from its flat shape. The sweet flesh is enclosed by the whitish to light yellow skin, which often has less hair than that of the conventional peach. The flesh is also whitish or light yellow.
Origin
The peach originates from China. It is cultivated in all countries of the world with a warm-temperate climate, in the subtropical summer rain area as well as in higher altitudes of the tropics. Italy is considered the "peach garden of Europe", and further significant cultivation takes place in France, Spain, Greece, the USA, South America, Australia and South Africa. The import season begins in mid-May with Spanish peaches, from June to September the modest domestic production is actively supported by imports from Italy and Greece. In winter until March, South Africa, Argentina and Chile supply us.
Tips
Peaches are sensitive to impact and pressure. Their storage life is limited.
Preparation
Peaches are mainly eaten raw. Their use in fruit salads, compotes, jams, preserves, fruit cups or for rumtopf guarantees a fruity delicacy. As a "rolling peach", the peach, which is pricked all around and floats in a glass filled with sparkling wine, is a well-known delicacy.
Storage recommendation
Stone fruit and grapes should be stored in the refrigerator.
