Potatoes are one of the most important staple foods in the world. Potatoes are thickened parts of the underground shoot of the annual potato plant. These serve as a reserve nutrient storage. The tubers vary in size, round, oval or kidney-shaped. The color varies depending on the variety from whitish, light yellow, ocher yellow, light red to violet. The flesh is usually white or yellow.
Origin
The original home is the Andean countries of South America. They have been cultivated there for 2,000 years. Around the middle of the 16th century, the potato was introduced to Europe as a garden and ornamental plant, and from 1621 also in Austria. It was not until Frederick the Great that the value of the potato as a food was recognized in the second half of the 18th century.
Preparation
The ideal potatoes for potato salad, parsley potatoes or as a side dish, also ideal for roasting and frying. The strengths of this variety are the beautiful, yellow color and the unique taste as well as the firm consistency.
About the producer
We are the Breitseher family from the Leiser Mountains in the Weinviertel. Three generations - one goal: the best quality in harmony with nature.
Together with Grandma Erna and our sons Manuel and Matthias, we manage the family business. Three generations work down-to-earth, with a lot of know-how and modern technology. With the help of diverse crop rotations, adapted varieties and forecast models, we can achieve excellent quality with minimal use of resources.
Years of experience and the optimal choice of varieties are the prerequisites for top quality. With diverse crop rotations and resource-saving cultivation, great importance is attached to nature.
Our potatoes are not washed in order to maintain the natural protective layer and thus ensure the best freshness.
Storage recommendation
Potatoes are sensitive to cold and should therefore not be stored in the refrigerator. However, they must be stored in a cool place. To prevent them from turning green in the light and forming the toxic solanine, it is important to store them in complete darkness.
