What do cherries taste like?
The bright light red to dark red fruits usually have a soft, loose pulp and are very juicy. Their taste is mildly sour to tart and spicy.
Older cherry trees can be easily recognized by their bark. It contains horizontal lines that run around the trunk and are sometimes interrupted. The leaves are serrated and can easily be confused with the leaves of other trees. Before falling in autumn, the leaves turn red.
Wild cherry trees can be found in our forests. They sometimes grow up to 30 meters high. The cultivated trees of the farmers used to be very tall as well. Modern cultivated varieties are much smaller and bear the first branches just above the ground. This makes it easy to harvest the fruits from the ground. Cultivated cherry trees must be pruned every winter.
Cherry trees blossom from April to May. The blossoms are white to pink. The fruits are sour to sweet, depending on whether and how the tree was cultivated.
CULTIVATION - Origin
For over 100 years, we have been producing strawberries and other fruits in the family business "Sonnenobst Habeler" at the foot of the Rosaliengebirge in Wiesen, the oldest strawberry municipality in Austria. Our sun-ripened, vitamin C-rich strawberries thrive excellently due to the Pannonian climate.
Storage recommendation
Cherries stay fresh longer if they are stored in the refrigerator with the stem.
