What is Alpengummi?

Alpengummi is the first natural chewing gum of the Alps. It is 100% natural, the chewing mass is made from local tree resin and beeswax. Alpengummi is sweetened purely with birch sugar, which promotes tooth remineralisation and neutralises harmful acids in the mouth. By using tree resin as a chewing mass, we draw on old traditions and support a craft that is threatened with extinction - pitching (resin extraction) in Lower Austria.

 

 

What's the problem with conventional chewing gum?

On the one hand, it is not declared exactly what is in the "chewing gum". Only on closer investigation does one find out that petroleum derivatives such as polyisobutylenes and polyvinyl acetates are responsible for the gumminess of the chewing mass.

But apart from the fact that conventional chewing gums are made of plastics, they usually contain other potentially harmful additives. For example, the antioxidant BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) is suspected of having an oestrogenic effect, similar to the already well-known parabens (often found in cosmetics). The artificial sweeteners aspartame and acesulfame K are also being avoided by more and more people for health reasons. In addition, there are sugars that are harmful to teeth and whitening agents such as titanium dioxide.
