Gschmackiger Bataviasalat
Batavia lettuce is a newer type of iceberg lettuce that originated in France. Varied in shape and size, Batavia lettuce combines characteristics of head lettuce and iceberg lettuce. However, the heads have a softer leaf structure than iceberg lettuce, but are fresh and crunchy. In taste, Batavia lettuce is more similar to iceberg lettuce and spicier than head lettuce.
.Markus Hautziger
The generation-rich business, Biogemüse Hautzinger in Seewinkel, which is run as a vegetable farm in the 3rd generation, has been converted to organic production since 2002.
The passion of Markus Hautzinger for nature and the production of vegetables started in his childhood. At the age of about 6, he was always the first one up in the morning to help out on the farm, which was still run by his parents at the time.
At that time, he was the first one to get up in the morning.
At that time, this was still a pure family business, with grandparents, parents and Markus with his siblings.
In the meantime, of course, the business has developed a lot and currently employs 12 people.
Specialised in the field of woodworking.
We specialise in organic salads, organic melanzani, organic chilli and peppers, although Markus is always keen to try out new things.
Origin
Batavia lettuce prefers the warmer climate. It is mainly grown in France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands. It is available all year round. Imports reach us in autumn mainly from France and the Netherlands.
Tips
Batavia lettuce stays fresh and crisp longer than other lettuce varieties.
Preparation
.To use, first clean the head, then remove the outer leaves and stalk and chop the inner leaves into small pieces. Like lettuce and iceberg lettuce, Batavia lettuce is dressed with spicy dressings and marinades. The redder varieties make a particularly attractive garnish in mixed salads.
