- if you are allergic to acetylcysteine or any of the other ingredients listed in section 6. other ingredients of this medicinal product
- if you have the rare hereditary metabolic disorder "phenylketonuria" (see "Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets contain aspartame and sodium")
- by children under 2 years
.Warnings and Precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets,
- if you have a severe narrowing of the airways (airway obstruction) such as. B. in bronchial asthma, as it can cause the bronchial muscles to spasm,
- if your respiratory function is impaired,
- if you are prone to gastrointestinal bleeding (due to varicose veins of the oesophagus, gastrointestinal ulcers),
- if you have kidney disease,
- if you have liver disease.
Very rarely, the occurrence of severe hypersensitivity reactions such as extensive skin rashes accompanied by itching, fever, chills, lymph node disorders, joint pain, skin peeling and changes in blood counts has been reported.The following cases have been reported in connection with the use of Mucobene 200 mg dissolvable tablets: Stevens-Johnson syndrome and Leyll's syndrome. If skin or mucous membrane changes occur, stop treatment with Mucobene 200 mg dissolvable tablets and consult a doctor immediately.
An increased volume of liquefied bronchial mucus may occur after the use of Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets. If expectoration is insufficient, the airways must be mechanically suctioned if necessary. Medical supervision is required when administered to asthma patients. Therefore, if expectoration is difficult despite the use of Mucobene 200 mg soluble tablets, a doctor should be contacted immediately.
If the symptoms persist, if the symptoms are unclear or if the expected effect of the application does not occur, a medical consultation is required as soon as possible (after 4 - 5 days at the latest).
Use of Mucobene 200 mg soluble tablets together with other medicinal productsInform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or do not intend to take/use any other medicines.
The effect of certain antibiotics (penicillins, cephalosporins, aminoglycosides, tetracyclines) may be reduced. Therefore, the additional intake of these antibiotics should be taken at least 2 hours before or after the use of Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets. This does not apply to the antibiotics cefixime and loracarbef.
Activated charcoal in high doses (e.g. as an antidote for poisoning) may reduce the effectiveness of Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets.
If Mucobene 200 mg soluble tablets are used at the same time as antitussive medicines, a dangerous build-up of secretions may occur due to the impaired cough reflex. Your doctor will carefully consider whether you should use both medicines at the same time.Therefore, be sure to ask your doctor before combined use.
If glycerol trinitrate (medicine used to treat circulatory disorders of the heart muscle [angina pectoris]) is given at the same time, its effect may be increased.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking/using this medicine.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
As there is insufficient experience with the use of acetylcysteine during pregnancy and breast-feeding, you should only use Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets during pregnancy and breast-feeding if your treating doctor considers it absolutely necessary.
Preproductivity
No data are available on the effect of acetylcysteine on fertility.
Driving and ability to operate machinery
Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets may not be effective due to rare side effects such as drowsiness or nausea.The side effects of Mucobene 200 mg Soluble Tablets may include drowsiness or nausea, which may impair the ability to drive or use machinery.
Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets contain aspartame and sodium.
1 soluble tablet contains 20 mg aspartame. Therefore, the use of Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets is not indicated in patients with the rare hereditary metabolic disorder "phenylketonuria" (see "Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets must not be used").
This medicinal product contains 190.5 mg sodium (main component of table salt) per soluble tablet. This corresponds to 10% of the maximum daily dietary sodium intake recommended for adults.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets daily for a long period of time, especially if you have to follow a low-salt diet.
How should the medicine be taken?
How to use Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets ?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is:
Adults and teenagers 14 years and over:1 dissolvable tablet 2-3 times a day
Children and teenagers 6 to 14 years: 2 times daily 1 dissolvable tablet
Children from 2 to 6 years: 2-3 times daily ½ dissolvable tablet
Mucobene 600 mg-dissolvable tablets and Mucobene 600 mg-dissolvable powder are also available for adults and adolescents aged 14 years and over.
Children under 2 years of age
Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets must not be used in children aged 0-2 years (see section 2 "What should you know before using Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets?"The dissolvable tablets are taken after meals, dissolved in a glass of water or fruit juice.
Always prepare solution fresh.
Do not take dissolvable tablets undissolved.
Do not dissolve dissolvable tablets at the same time as other medicines.
The expectorant effect is supported by copious fluid intake.
Duration of use
If your clinical picture worsens or there is no improvement after 4-5 days, you should consult a doctor.

1 dissolvable tablet contains 200 mg acetylcysteine.
The other ingredients are:
Aspartame (E 951), citric acid, adipic acid, sodium hydrogen carbonate, povidone (K25), lemon flavouring.
How Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets .What the pack looks like
Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets are white to slightly yellow, round, flat effervescent tablets with a break notch on one side and a smell of lemon.
The tablet can be divided into equal doses
The ready-to-use solution is clear, slightly yellowish with an odour of lemon.
Mucobene 200 mg-soluble tablets are available in plastic (polypropylene) tablet tubes of 20.
