For organic farmer Norbert Hackl, it was clear from the beginning of Labonca's free-range farming about 20 years ago that a completely different approach would be taken in animal husbandry. The focus should not be on profitability, but on the necessity that all animals at Labonca are allowed to live out their natural needs such as running, rooting, wallowing, nest building, and much more on spacious pastures and in the open nature, and that passing away in peace and in a familiar environment should take place.
