Basil cress is the name given to the young, fresh basil sprouts, which we cut while they are still in the young plant stage. Basil cress has a very delicate flavour and is ideal for refining dishes such as pasta, egg dishes and salads. Basil cress is also often used for decoration.

The Altschachl nursery is a family business in its 6th generation, which has existed since 1865. Under 9500m² of state-of-the-art greenhouse space and on 8000m² of open-air space, we produce fresh cut herbs all year round. These are cut fresh daily, packed immediately and are ready for sale on the same day and make their way to your kitchen. We offer fresh herbs for top chefs and enthusiasts throughout Austria! Our customers are delivery services, restaurant chains and shops, which we supply with fresh herbs throughout Austria.
Through modern cultivation methods, climate control strategies and the use of beneficial insects, we achieve a very natural and gentle production. In addition, the CO2 emissions from the heating system are used for the CO2 fertilisation of the plants, which convert this into oxygen during photosynthesis. This means that we are largely CO2-neutral. The electricity comes 100% from hydropower and the irrigation water is taken from the company's own rainwater collection basin. In this way, we try to keep our ecological "footprint" as small as possible. Before the water reaches the plants, it is cleaned using the Grander water filter method, enriched with nutrients and reaches the herb plants in an enhanced form. We sow and grow our plants largely in our own nursery, because in this way we can control and ensure the quality and plant health from the seed to the finished end product.
