About the Producer:
Hermann Neuburger, the Senior, born in 1925, completed his butcher's training in Germany, at the renowned and innovative Butcher's Vocational School in Augsburg. Inspired by what he learned there, he developed the Neuburger recipe in 1948. The new specialty delighted the people of Ulrichsberg from the very beginning. In 1956, Hermann Neuburger senior took over his parents' butchery and established further branches in the surrounding area. The machinery was expanded, production was increased, and the shops were redesigned. Farming and the guesthouse were no longer operated; all concentration was on meat processing and the production of fine sausage products. In the 1970s, the spread of supermarkets became noticeable – the previously successful butchery trade stagnated. The Neuburger specialty already accounted for 40% of total sales, and so the idea slowly took shape to offer the Neuburger as a branded product in grocery stores, i.e., in supermarkets. In 1980, the next generation, Hermann Neuburger junior, entered the scene. His goal: to make the Neuburger known throughout Austria with the help of grocery retail. When Hermann Neuburger junior took over the family business in 1986, he dedicated all his attention solely to the Neuburger; the production of other sausage products was discontinued. This concept worked. Soon, the distribution of the Neuburger could be expanded to Vienna and Salzburg. Since the mid-1990s, the Neuburger has been available throughout Austria, and since 2009, also in parts of Germany. Through the concentration, passion, and perseverance of its inventors, the Neuburger has, in just three generations, transformed from an innovative idea into an unmistakable brand.
