Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
Umami seasoning sauce. The sauce was developed in 1837 by two chemists, John Lea and William Perrins, in Worcester, England. The original recipe was supposedly created by accident when the two chemists tried to imitate an Indian recipe. Initially, the taste was so strong and unpleasant that the concoction was put in the cellar and forgotten. When they rediscovered it later, the flavors had developed into a delicious sauce over time.
The sauce has a long shelf life and should be stored in the refrigerator after opening to preserve its freshness. Worcestershire Sauce is often used as a seasoning for meat dishes, stews, sauces, and dressings. It is also particularly popular as an ingredient in Bloody Mary cocktails.
