At Maranhof, the well-being of our chickens is our top priority – this is how we get eggs that couldn't be better.

Eggs are one of the most nutrient-rich foods ever: With the exception of vitamin C, they contain every vital vitamin and all trace elements our body needs.

Due to the lower laying performance in combination with nutritionally optimized feeding, Maranhof produces eggs of the highest quality. You can taste it, which is why our purebred chicken eggs are also used in upscale gastronomy, such as in the 2-star restaurant 'Mraz&Sohn', the star restaurant 'Tian', the 2-toque restaurant 'Cafe Kandl' and others.

The eggs from the dual-purpose Gauloise breed come from sustainable mobile free-range farming in Austria.

Our Bresse purebred chickens live in mobile coops specially made for our project, with only half the stocking density compared to conventional organic free-range farming, and also have male roosters in the group to better form social structures within the chicken flock.

Thanks to the winter garden integrated into the coop, our chickens get enough fresh air even in bad weather, and in good weather, a spacious pasture optimally adapted to their needs is available to them.

As the only project of this size, Maranhof exclusively keeps purebred chickens, which, in contrast to the widespread laying hybrid breeds, have a lower laying performance but can have a longer and healthier life.

Maranhof stands for the highest egg quality combined with the best possible, ethical animal husbandry.

Our chickens moult annually and have a laying break during this time to regenerate their bodies. This is another reason why our hens live with us far beyond the usual one to two laying periods and do not risk suffering health-wise from continuous laying.
