The history of MARLENKA® honey cakes is closely linked to company founder Gevorg Avetisjan, who came to Frydek-Mistek from Armenia at the turn of the millennium. Forced out of his homeland by war and instability, he thought about how he could make a living in the Czech Republic. As a foreigner, he did not have an easy time of it at all.

In these difficult times, he asked his sister to bake him her popular honey cake according to a family recipe. He took this to a friend's cafe, who called him the same evening that he needed more cakes and wanted to have more made in the future.

Thanks to its exquisite taste due to the interplay of the fluffy dough with the delicious caramel cream, the family cake was very well received in the wide surroundings. In honour of the mother and daughter, the honey cake was named Marlenka.
