Prospan Cough Pastilles must not be taken
- if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to ivy or any of the other ingredients mentioned in section 6. other ingredients of this medicinal product mentioned in section 6.
- in case of cross-reactions to other members of the aralia family (e.g. ginseng).
Warnings and precautions
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Prospan® Cough Lozenges.

If you experience shortness of breath, fever or purulent sputum, you must consult a doctor.

The simultaneous use of this medicine with medicines that suppress cough (antitussives such as codeine or dextromethorphan) without a doctor's advice is not recommended.

Caution is advised in patients with gastritis or stomach ulcers.

Children
Prospan Cough Pastilles are not suitable for children under 4 years of age.
If children under 4 years of age suffer from persistent and recurrent cough, this requires medical diagnosis before treatment.

Taking Prospan Cough Lozenges with other medicines
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or do not intend to take/use any other medicines.

No studies have been conducted to detect interactions.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you suspect you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

As there are insufficient data, the use of this medicinal product during pregnancy and breast-feeding cannot be recommended.

Driving and ability to operate machinery
No studies have been carried out on the effects on driving and ability to operate machinery.

Prospan® Cough Drops contain maltitol and sorbitol
Please only take Prospan® Cough Drops after consulting your doctor if you are known to suffer from a sugar intolerance.

How should the medicine be taken?

HOW TO TAKE PROSPAN Cough PILLS?

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is:

Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over:
every 1 to 2 hours 1 lozenge

maximum 6 lozenges per day

Children 4 to 11 years:
every 2 to 3 hours 1 lozenge
maximum 4 lozenges per day.

Type of use:
For ingestion (sucking).
Prospan Cough Lozenges can be sucked independently of meals.

Duration of use:
If you do not feel better or even worse after 1 week, consult your doctor.

Use in children
Prospan Cough Lozenges are not suitable for children under 4 years of age.

If you have taken a larger amount of Prospan Cough Drops than you should

In case of overdose, irritation of the gastrointestinal tract (nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea) or restlessness may occur.
The symptoms are reversible when the preparation is stopped.

If you have forgotten to take Prospan Cough Lozenges
Do not take twice the amount if you have forgotten to take it before.

Do not store above 25°C.
Store in the original pack.
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the blister pack and outer carton after "EXP". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.

What Prospan cough lozenges contain

-The active substance is: dry extract of ivy leaves.
1 lozenge contains 26 mg dry extract of ivy leaves (ratio of drug to extract 5 - 7.5 : 1 , extraction agent: ethanol 30 % (m/m))

-The other ingredients are:
Maltitol solution, Arabic gum, citric acid, acesulfame potassium, sorbitol solution 70% (non-crystallising), medium chain triglycerides, orange flavour, menthol flavour, purified water.
