Garlic from Austria!
With an annual global production of around 2.5 million tonnes, garlic is one of the 20 most important vegetables in the world. The garlic bulb is broad-ovate, coarsely longitudinally ridged, smooth, white-glossy and composed of up to 12 daughter bulbs, so-called prongs or claws. The bulb is enveloped by several dry, white to reddish skins. Each individual clove is in turn surrounded by a papery skin.
Origin
The origin of garlic is not certain; it probably originated in Southwest Asia, in the steppes of Central Asia and in India. Even the peoples of antiquity, the Sumerians (5000 BC), the ancient Babylonians, Indians, Chinese, Greeks and Romans used garlic, mainly in cooking. Today, garlic is grown wherever there is a dry and sunny climate. The German market is dominated by imports from Spain, France, Italy, Argentina, Mexico, China, etc. all year round, with insignificant domestic production.
Tips
The following home remedies can help against the aftertaste of garlic: chew some parsley, peppermint, 1-2 cloves, fresh ginger slices pickled in vinegar or drink fresh milk.
Preparation
The most delicious dishes and meals contain garlic or have become so delicious because of it. To use, peel the cloves and crush them on a little salt with a knife or in a garlic press. Basically, garlic should only be used in moderation. A hint of garlic goes with almost any salad. Garlic is often used with lamb and fatty pork, in strong sauces, in stews, pasta dishes, garlic butter, etc.
About the producer
Our farm is located in the Lower Austrian region of Tullnerfeld. We love the varied work with and in nature, the fields and meadows around the farm and life on the outskirts of the city.
Since our way of working involves a lot of mindfulness towards nature and we treat the soil with care, we would like to pass on our knowledge and techniques in modern agriculture to our customers.
We at Gschaiderhof are young business owners and are always on the lookout for interesting crops.
We produce a wide range of products, including oil pumpkins for our pumpkin seed oil and our snack kernels, but also garlic, fruit vegetables, wheat, corn, soybeans and sugar beets.
Storage recommendation
Garlic should be stored in a cool, dry and dark place, but never in the refrigerator.
